Your Guide to Surviving the 2019 SAPPHIRE NOW + ASUG Annual Conference

As a future 2019 SAPPHIRE NOW + ASUG Annual Conference attendee, you may need help navigating around the logistics of surviving the long days while absorbing all the information from insightful sessions, impactful networking, and award-winning entertainment. Here’s a breakdown of tips handpicked by the ERP Integrated Solutions team to help you survive the biggest American SAP conference of the year.

Figure out what you want to do and when you want to do it.

There are a plethora of activities to participate in. From exploring the latest in digital supply chain to enhancing people management, it may be helpful to download the “SAPPHIRE NOW + ASUG AC” app to review and schedule hundreds of speaking sessions, discover exhibitors, and find networking sessions. The app also features a map to help you find our way through all the SAPPHIRE NOW and ASUG areas. You can also check out the schedule on the conference’s website here.

Don’t know where to start when it comes to putting together your itinerary? Learn about our recommedations here.

Prepare for early days and late nights.

  • Here’s a pro tip for surviving the 2019 SAPPHIRE NOW + ASUG Annual Conference in the morning: board the complimentary shuttle bus to the Orange County Convention Center early to avoid long wait times. Doing so allows you to get to the best breakfast options and grab the best seats at the SAP keynote!
  • After the long days of learning, be on the lookout for food and fun! There are always tasty appetizers and specialty drinks towards the end of the day in the vendor area. Drop by to enjoy free rewards for attending the premier SAP conference of the year.
  • Don’t want to stay in your hotel room? Hunt for after-hours parties that will provide you with amazing bites and networking. Not only are they a great way to make work trip fun, but they also give you the chance to expand your social horizons. In fact, we are hosting an island style party at Bahama Breeze in Orlando exclusive to SAPPHIRE NOW + ASUG Annual conference attendees. RSVP now before we run out of tickets.
RSVP to join the ERP Integrated Solutions team at an island style party in Orlando, Florida.

Prep your mind, body, and soul.

  • Get in those steps now! Start walking long distances now during your work breaks to get used to being on your feet for eight or more hours.
  • Take bathroom breaks when you can to avoid herds of attendees lining up for the restroom.
  • There’s a variety of food in the morning at the conference’s continental breakfast. Be sure to fuel up on caffeine with their coffee offerings.

Pack smart.

  • Make sure you pack a good pair of shoes to help you get from sessions to vendor booths to the dining area. The Orange County Convention Center is a vast building that might take a toll on your feet if you don’t have comfortable shoes to walk in.
  • Leave some space in your suitcase to bring documents and tchotchkes home for you and your family. In the past, vendors provided stress balls, electronics, and raffle prizes to those who visit their booths.
  • Bring your pain-relieving/anti-inflammatory pills and medication, just in case you want to soothe a migraine or relieve tired muscles.

Learn about digital supply chain transformation.

Visit us at booth #1749 during the 2019 SAP SAPPHIRE NOW + ASUG Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida to relax your feet, talk about SAP-integrated shipping, and grab some freebies.

“I’m completely ecstatic about the opportunity to discuss high-speed order and shipment processing with likeminded SAP professionals. SAPPHIRE NOW® is a great space to demonstrate how marrying innovative business and empowering your team can boost your customer lifetime value.”

Top 5 Lessons Learned from Integrating Shipping within SAP EWM

Managing a fast-paced and high-volume warehouse while implementing complicated supply chain logistics is a wild ride. With this complex process in mind, adopting SAP EWM may be in your near future to assist in automating end-to-end logistics. The great thing about taking on SAP EWM is that it will help to optimize quality, production, and distribution operations.

Here are the top 5 lessons learned from integrating shipping within SAP EWM:

If an extension is required, make sure that your business meets the following criteria:

  • The extension is a mandatory requirement and no process change can be put into place to avoid this enhancement.
  • Quantify the costs and benefits of acquiring the enhancement against the effort spent in developing and maintaining the system.
  • Ensure that the solution is compatible with upgrades that the company may need in the future.
  • Use automated shipping services to make sure that it creates carrier compliant labels.

1. Use Standard Functionality as Much as Possible

When mapping your business process to SAP EWM, leverage the standard business scenarios and configurations offered by SAP and perform enhancements only when it is vital to supply chain and business success.

For a successful project deployment, we need to have a clear view of which metrics should be used. Define the following critical metrics at the beginning of the project and track them throughout the duration and end of the project:

2. Define and Track your Metrics

  • Numeric Metrics – Compare current vs future volume, packages shipped per day, total cost of current solution ownership vs SAP EWM ownership, and downtime improvements.
  • Strategic Metrics – Improvements in visibility on the supply chain process and cost reductions on the freight cost due to process simplifications and shipping integration.

3. Prepare for Change Management

If you are moving from a mainframe process to SAP EWM there is a vast process change, and users need to be prepared upfront on the requirements on the new system. Train end users accordingly and engage with key stakeholders at each stage of the project. This practice will ensure that they know what is coming so that they can prepare for potential activities; this process leads to a smoother transition.

4. Choose your Partners Wisely

Creating a selection strategy to acquire the right partner for the SAP EWM deployment project is crucial to your EWM success. Furthermore, selecting the best partner will reduce your implementation turmoil. The selection strategy should evaluate the partners on their track record on EWM deployments on your industry, their implementation approach, as well as their leadership and change management strategies. You may apply the same criteria for additional shipping services when selecting partners for shipping conveyor solutions, voice automation, etc.

5. Automate as Much as Possible

SAP EWM provides a variety of standard automation functionalities such as wave picking, RF functionalities, voice picking, etc. With that said, automate where ever possible to ensure less manual intervention and errors. Label creation, print and apply solutions, hazardous material documentation can be automated. In turn, automation will reduce user errors, leading to increased efficiency and profits. Furthermore, it replaces tribal knowledge with system driven data.
